ENCHANTING! FRIENDLY! AN INSTANT CLASSIC!
In a dream, a little girl named
Susie meets a homeless freckle named Freddie and offers him a place to live
"right here on my hand." Freddie Q. Freckle has been charming children for
almost fifty years. What makes this particular "classic" unusual is that
this is the first time that Freddie and Susie have appeared in published
format! Midge Messinger first created Freddie Q. Freckle in 1956 for the
enjoyment of her own children. Over the years, the story became a staple in
the community, where the tale was read aloud and the original illustrations
shown countless times in classrooms, libraries and at children's functions.
Created to help ease the anxiety over her children's materializing freckles,
Freddie Q. Freckle also reaches out to youngsters on a social plane,
compelling them to feel and act upon their emerging compassions.

FIRST-OF-A-KIND STORYBOOK FOR THE YOUNGEST GENERATION OF COMPUTER
USERS!
-
At first, Laura was
pretty amused at some of the words Dad used when he talked about his 'puter,
as she called it. She more than giggled when he talked about a "mouse" that
could move things around the screen, and she laughed especially hard when
Dad complained about those nasty "bugs" in his 'puter! By the time Laura was
four, Dad called her his 'puter wizard, because she was able to play her own
computer games and because of her enthusiasm for the computer activities
they'd do together. But Laura had a secret. She was fascinated by the email
her dad received, and she fully enjoyed the wonderfully magic electronic
messages he shared with her. More than anything, Laura yearned for her own
email. This illustrated storybook fancifully portrays young Laura's
fascination with her dad's computer, as well as her quest to get her own
email. Laura is a character with whom children of the electronic age will
most certainly identify.

Why Me? Why Did I Have
to Get Diabetes?
by Robert Messinger and Laura Messinger
Nine-year-old Laura was diagnosed with diabetes when she was just
three. She's adapted really well to the daily
regimen of finger pricks, insulin shots and diet restrictions. She has a basic
understanding of her diabetes, and she leads a happy and full life that
includes ballet recitals, parties, after-school activities, jewelry-making and
craft shows with Mom, writing and playing ball with Dad, and so much more. But
every once in a while, Laura gets sad and asks, "Why me? Why did I
have to get diabetes?"
In an attempt to come to grips with this question, Dad and Laura decided to
tackle it together in this storybook. What they found out is that
Laura's question isn't uncommon among children with diabetes. In fact, it's
not uncommon among children with all types of chronic illnesses.
In Why Me?, an unlikely interaction between Laura and a classmate helps
them both come to terms with the feelings they have about their diabetes.
Why Me? deals with the guilt and other emotions that often accompany
chronic illnesses in a way that children can understand. It reinforces
self-esteem, and it helps children to understand that it is not their illness
that defines them, but instead who they are and what they do.
